SILVER - COMMENTARY ................... ORANGE - SIN / WORLD
I just had - what wasn't meant to be a confrontation - - but evidently became- -- a confrontation - - with a good friend regarding the challenge of living the 'Christian life', a challenge, which at times seems to become a conflict of interest [Galatians 5:17] the lust of the flesh versus the Spirit, that we each face as we grow in Christ. One statement was made in this conversation that stood out to me, paraphrased, 'there are so many 'good Christians' out there living in sin we can't all be lost'. In other words, 'God will just have to forgive me' and 'as long as I get to heaven'.
Jesus came for the LOST sheep of the house of Israel[Matthew 18:11 / Luke 19:10]
Jesus Christ came to seek and 'save' the lost.
There are several Hebrew words for SHEEP [צאן tso'n, כשב keseb , כבש kebes, שה seh ] but essentially sheep are known for 'migration' [relocation], moving from pasture to pasture, pushing out to graze. One day we will all face 'relocation' - from earth to either heaven (saved) or hell (lost). The Passover Lamb שה seh was to be taken from the sheep כבש kebes (those who 'dominated)'. That sheep would become the Shepherd who would lead the sheep in their migration to 'new pasture'. Those that don't follow the Shepherd - Jesus Christ - - become LOST.

The LOST can always go to the FATHER and he will show him the DOOR. [John 10] JESUS is the DOOR of the sheep who only speaks the Word of the FATHER. The SAVED have a MASTER JESUS who will clothe them in WHITE LINEN. The LOST have a MASTER who is LIAR [John 8:44], 'your father the devil'.
Why were / are the 'sheep LOST?
The LOST, not knowing the law of the Spirit of life in Christ are subject to the 'law of sin and death'. Our life here is of 'earthly' blood. Life on planet earth is subject to our heart beating and pumping blood. LIFE is in BLOOD [Leviticus 17:11-14]. Our life beyond planet earth - heaven - requires 'heavenly' blood, then of necessity, a 'new birth, in which we receive a 'new heart' and blood - the atoning blood of JESUS CHRIST. In order to enter God's kingdom, our blood must be kingdom blood. This transition [1 Corinthians 15] is made in this life so that when death 'passes over' us our life will not be taken from us.
LOST is a word, both in Hebrew and Greek that lends itself to the definition of 'eternal misery', to suffer (as a son of hell). Without the living BLOOD of the Lamb, the Shepherd of our souls [1 Peter 2:25] Jesus Christ, Son of God and Man, whose kingdom is the kingdom of God / kingdom of heaven, we are LOST to eternal life, and in bondage to sin and death. Essentially there are only two laws [Romans 8:2]: the law of sin and death and the law of the Spirit of life in Christ.

Romans 10:9
That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead,
you shall be saved.
and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead,
you shall be saved.
The SAVED experience God's love, the divine providence of life-giving blood, that they should not perish, but have eternal life.
Ephesians 2:5-8
Even when we were dead in sins, he has made us alive
together with Christ, (by grace you are saved)...
For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God.
Even when we were dead in sins, he has made us alive
together with Christ, (by grace you are saved)...
For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God.
Often, as a SAVED Christian, we do not endure the crucifixion of our fleshly desires, nor cease from sin. When we do not endure, we are not LOST to heaven, because Jesus Christ shed His blood, and paid the penalty for each of us, having forgiven our sin. When God sent Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt, note the last plague - death of the firstborn, of both Israel and Egypt. Death of the firstborn was averted if the blood was seen on the doorpost of the house. ANYONE 'under the blood' was SAVED. The Angel of Death did not consider 'who' was in the house, IF they were in sin - - he just noted the blood and 'passed over'. And so it is with us - - the focus of being saved is not on 'sin' - - it is on the blood of the Lamb - the mercy of God in Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 12:22-28
But you are come unto mount Zion,
and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem,
and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly
and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven,
and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
[ just: δικαιος dikaios: righteous, observing divine laws]And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant,
and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better things than that of Abel ... Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have
grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
2 Corinthians 7:1
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
The good news is that God HAS forgiven us - but we need to know - He is a God of justice:
THAT SAID - - - there are other considerations for the Christian believer equally important.

Psalm 99
You answered them, O Lord our God; You were to them God-Who-Forgives,
though You took vengeance on their deeds.
When Jesus Christ was CRUCIFIED - His flesh was crucified. IF I agree with Galatians 2:20 that 'I am crucified with Christ, It is no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me' - - then - - deep within my heart - - I know that MY flesh (ly) desires must also meet His cross. How else can He live in me? How else can I follow Him? HIS sheep HEAR His voice - - and obey (follow).

The angel of death [Exodus 12:29] passed over the firstborn of Israel and Egypt - at midnight. We - all of us - as church, being prepared as a 'chaste virgin' [2 Corinthians 11:2] - - need to be shaken from sleep and check the oil [light, anointing, Christ] in our lamps [Matthew 25] - -it was at midnight when a cry was made, 'the bridegroom is coming.' Five virgins were ready and went with him - five did not have the needed oil and when they tried to enter they heard the Lord say, 'I know you not'.
Matthew 25:10-12
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready
went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready

For one moment here let us look at the sin nature.
When we doubt the instruction of the Word of God given for our protection (covering)- we not only abort the life of God in our heart, but give an 'open door' to death. Sin 'deadens' our heart and mind, to doubt the instruction of God to 'resist the devil'. The devil [John 10:10] never ceases his work 'to kill, steal and destroy'.
Rabbi Yitzach Ginsburg:
The four major sins noted in the Torah are the ones we yet battle to overcome:
The sin of the Adam and Eve in the garden: LUST
The sin of selling Joseph into slavery: JEALOUSY
The sin of the golden calf: IMAGINATION
The sin of the spies: FEAR
The woman, seduced by the serpent, was promised 'you will become like God' - in other words 'able to create your own world'. Not only are the nations still currently pursuing just that - the 'new world order' - we also lust to 'create our own world, our own life', often at the cost of 'blood covenant' and 'family'.
Joseph's brothers saw their father preferring Joseph which caused JEALOUSY that turned to hatred. The Pharisees saw the Father preferring Jesus - causing JEALOUSY which turned to hatred then murder. When we feel we are being slighted, rejected, or betrayed by people or things taking preference over us, we experience 'jealousy'. Marriage partners vent their anger and hate toward each other which often turns to violence - then murder - actual or in the form of divorce. Children lash out at siblings, often fatally, such as Cain and Abel. Here too, God put a 'mark' on Cain that he 'should not be killed'. The only mark [TAV: cross] that protects against death is the blood.
Israel experienced the miracle of being brought through the Red Sea and seeing their enemies destroyed. God was leading them into the wilderness, a word by its letters tells you it is the place of testing your walk 'on the water of the Word'. They received water from the Rock and manna from heaven. Even so, they returned to sin - the worship of the golden calf - causing the 'breaking of the commandments'.
1 Corinthians 10:
1 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers.. were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,
2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
3 all ate the same spiritual food,
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. .. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them,
.. and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, .. for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that.. we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written,.. "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."
8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did,.. and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;
9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted,.. and were destroyed by serpents;
10 nor complain, as some of them also complained,.. and were destroyed by the destroyer. `
.. upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
Concerning the golden calf, considered the WORST sin, CALF in Hebrew comes from a root meaning 'round' as in following a 'cycle' of nature. This sin signified the 'change of gods', from God back to the sin nature. With the absence of Moses who had ascended the mount, the people doubted his return and chose 'substitute leadership' constructing a golden calf. Faith comes by hearing, and they used women's 'ear rings' in its construction. The worship of the true God was replaced by the calf. The word 'leadership' is rbd - dabar - the same word as 'Word'. Moses 'leadership' rbd - dabar - was for the purpose of delivering Israel to 'walk on the water of the Word rbdm - midabar, to inherit the promise - rbd - dabar. Yet we do the same thing. We see great deliverances in our lives time and time again, we receive the 'water of the Word' - church, bible studies, and then, like Aaron said, the 'golden calf just suddenly appears' and we 'bow and worship' it. When we sin, we are substituting 'gods' - God for our own desire, imagination (image/passions/interests), our own leadership and word - - forsaking the 'mind of Christ for 'our own mind'. We, as Christians, proclaim the return of Jesus, while at the same time dancing with a golden calf. Selah!

The sin of the spies was FEAR - fear of war, fear of failure, fear of being overcome.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
casting down imaginations and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled .

Regarding the 'law' the Gentiles receiving Christ were instructed in four commands:
Acts 15:20
but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols
ειδωλον eidolon: phantoms of the mind,
from sexual immorality:
πορνεια porneia: adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, ...............................sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman or animals
from things strangled:
πνικτος pniktos: an animal deprived of life without the shedding of blood
and from blood:
αιμα haima: blood shed, to be shed by violence, slay, murder

Though we may not suffer the 'loss of heaven', our sin covered by Jesus blood, forgiven, we DO suffer an equally precious loss - that of the communion of His presence, abiding in His glory, and our ability to worship. We are called [John 4:24] to worship in 'spirit and truth' and when indulging our flesh we are not in 'spirit' nor are we in 'truth'.
Worship is not about 'singing songs', although I like worship songs probably more than most. Worship is about a life of obedience to the Word - to His commandments.
The penalty for sin [Romans 6:23], under the law, is death. Jesus Christ, by His blood sacrifice for sin, satisfied the requirement of the law, and extends, as the Son of Man, that grace to us, but with a warning - -'Go and sin no more lest something worse befall you'.
Romans 6:6 -19
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him,
that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof ...
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace?God forbid ...
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh:
for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity;
even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
2 Timothy 1:9
Who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace,
which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began ...
It has further been stated that Jesus came to "magnify the law," magnify is not a bad word but we must understand it. Jesus indeed magnified the law but assuredly not in the sense of making the letter of the law more binding; He magnified it by making it's essential purpose more clear, by revealing that we must obey the full spiritual meaning of God's law (Matthew 5-7).
Today Christians are not subject to the Ten Commandments as a ten-point code of 'dos' and 'donts,' rather, the Holy Spirit has been sent into our hearts so that we may walk in faith and obedience at a much deeper level than was possible before. We should now seek to obey (admittedly, not always successfully) the great moral and spiritual law which lies behind the Ten Commandments, yet which is infinitely greater than those ten specific, and obviously restricted, points ever could be. The 'Law of Christ' is a good term for this. Through this, we see that adultery is not the real problem, but, rather, the lust which leads to it is the problem. We see that murder is not the real problem but the hatred which leads to the act. We also see that "keeping the sabbath," is not about mechanically refraining from all work one day a week, but about entering the rest of Christ (Matthew 11:28-30) as a Christian convert now, and finally to enter His 'rest' of Eternal Life at the end of our lives when our earthly 'labours' are complete (Hebrews 3:14-4:11).
Romans 10:4: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness for everyone who believes.
* 'end' / telos: from a primary tello: (to set out for a definite point or goal)
'... you are the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, not having been written with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not on tablets of stone, but in fleshly tablets of the heart. And we have such trust through Christ toward God, not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God; who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.' (2 Corinthians 3:3-6).
Disobedience to the commandments, not to the letter, but to the Spirit of life in Christ - opens the door to death, the destruction of our flesh.

Romans 7:11-12
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.
Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Luke 18:20
You know the commandments, do not commit adultery, do not kill,
do not steal, do not bear false witness, honour your father and thy mother.
John 14:15-21
If you love me, keep my commandments ...
He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me:
and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father,
and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
1 John 2:3-4
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar,
and the truth is not in him.
1 John 3:24
And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him.
And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:
and his commandments are not grievous.
We say, (since becoming a committed Christian), "I haven't killed anyone, stolen, or offered myself in adultery.' Yet we deceive ourselves if we take the way of the world, and not of Christ: we continue in gossip, white lies, unforgiveness, bitternesses, lust and jealousy. We kill our marriage by our own hand, then prostitute ourselves, (according to the words of Jesus given for marriage / divorce), in adultery, pursuing our own lust and covet or steal the life of another or another's spouse yet under blood covenant to the death, and feel justified. Have we become our own God, deciding for ourselves or are we truly committed to Christ.? [See posts 39-40-41 on 7-14, 15, and 16]. God's desire for us is to pursue holiness, reconcile and restore.
Matthew 24:12
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
Have we lost our first love? Has our love toward God and His word grown cold? Are we lukewarm? Talking - not walking - is either immature - or lukewarm. We need to pray as David did, 'Restore unto me the JOY of your salvation - renew a right spirit within me.'
One last thought: God is the judge of 'who goes to heaven and who goes to hell'. Only God knows the heart and His judgment is based on the personal relationship of our heart. That is each individual's responsibility. Christ did pay for our sin that we would not have to go. But we can not say we 'love Him', when we don't obey his commands. In a marriage relationship, if there was ongoing adultery, but the spouse kept saying, 'But I love you!' - - what would your thoughts be?
There have been numerous testimonies of 'Christians' who have had near death experiences who were told their place would have been hell had not God been faithful to His blood covenant with them and give them more time to order their life aright in forgiveness and Christ-spirit. IF a Christian is 'hell-bound' - it is not because his sin is not covered - -it is because of his/her own heart attitude and choices, like Esau, who for one morsel of pleasure sold his birthright. And only you yourself know if you are right with God, walking as He has called us to walk. His own Word says He knows who loves Him - -those that keep his commandments.
