REVISED:
Added some things to sons of Noah and moved some things for better placement.
When approaching Revelation 17 in more depth - I like to think about how things began as well as how things are ending. Think of marriage - your own if you are / were married - how it began, all that has transpired and our part in it to bring it to its present
state. God has betrothed a people to Himself.

THE BEGINNING:
In Genesis 1 God creates man in his image. Interesting to note that Genesis 2, which deals with family relationship, begins with the 'seventh day', a day that signifies God's rest, particularly from evil. Adam is in the garden of paradise, and God puts him in a deep sleep as He builds [hnb ] his wife from his rib [ )lc ]. In Genesis 3, Adam's wife knows the command of God, 'Do not eat of the tree - or you will surely die'. But the woman, seduced by the serpent, succumbs to 'eating'. She, and mankind through her, enters death.

In Genesis 3, Adam's wife knows the command of God, 'Do not eat of the tree - or you will surely die'. But the woman, seduced by the serpent, succumbs to 'eating'. She, and mankind through her, enters death.
Having entered the 'death realm', Genesis 4 [the 'door' / life and death], Cain and Abel are born and then we receive the account [verse 8: consummate life] of Cain killing Abel. Cain means possession - but also - spear, both in the sense of 'fixity'. Abel's offering of a 'firstborn slain lamb' was received by God. Cain's offering of the fruit of the ground was not accepted. In anger, Cain killed Abel, and God said, "Abel's blood cries out from the ground". Since the ground received Abel's blood, Cain was now cursed from the earth, to be a fugitive and a vagabond, the earth also able to receive his blood. Cain said his punishment was more than he could bear, so God put a mark [TAV / cross, the sign of the slain lamb] on Cain [his possession] that no man should kill him, that he should remain alive, but that whoever should think of killing him would suffer God's vengeance seven-fold.
CHRIST:
Jesus Christ, born a Jew, came to redeem 'his possession', the slain lamb, from the foundation of the world [Revelation 13:8], his blood speaking better things than Abel's sacrifice. He came [John 10] 'as the Door': as Son of Man, he was born into death, and as Son of God He is the Seed of life. He died on a 'tree' [Galatians 3:13]. Jesus laid his life down willingly, but 'brother Jews', not receiving His Messiah-ship, handed Jesus over to Pontius Pilate [Pontius: man of the sea ... Pilate: armed with a spear] to be crucified. His blood, spilled on Jerusalem's soil yet cries out, but as Cain, JERUSALEM has the MARK, the CROSS, the sign of the slain Lamb that they can 'live and not die' and declare the glory of the Lord. God seeks that Jerusalem's inhabitant's 'repent / return' to Messiah, Christ. that no man should seek vengeance in 'shedding man's blood', lest they partake of God's vengeance. Three days after his death, Christ arose from the dead. Forty days later Jesus ascended into heaven as an angel spoke to those watching, 'As you have seen him go, so you will see Him return.'
Since the time of Christ - 70AD - Jews have been as a 'fugitive and vagabond', a 'man without a country', subject to pogroms and 'flight'. That is, until 1948. But -- can Israel be a nation 'without her King, without Messiah? Paul makes it clear in Romans 11 - that God has not done away with his elect people.

She has the 'mind of her King, Messiah, Christ'. But Jerusalem [teaching of peace] has a rival - Babylon [confusion by mixing], a harlot, lacking discipleship of Christ. who claims to 'sit as queen:

* THE JERUSALEM THAT NOW IS - is the [spiritually (not physically) Egyptian] 'bondwoman' Hagar [flight]. It is the bondwoman that flees to the wilderness [Genesis 16 & 21]. When Sarah gives birth to Isaac, his destiny, by his name, is to laugh / make sport of death. When Abraham [father of a multitude] makes the sacrifice of his son Isaac, God spares him providing the sacrifice 'of a lamb'. Hagar and her son mock Isaac, and are sent into the wilderness.

BACK TO THE BEGINNING:
Genesis 1-5 God created Adam [mankind] in his image and 'built' Eve from his side. He brought the two together as one - and from them came 'offspring'.
Genesis 6-9 'Sons of God' are cohabiting with 'sons of men'. Wickedness is overwhelming, and the world is destroyed by a flood. God starts over with 8 souls, Noah [rest], his wife, Noah's three sons, Shem [name], Cham [hot, become warm, passion] & Japeth [opened (mind)] and their wives. As a side note: Abraham bought the cave of Machpelah [double] from the sons of Cheth: [terror but also 'sons of eight'], - from Ephron [fawn (deer) - like] to bury Sarah [queen]. Looking at Noah's sons first by nations, but also by spirit:
Sons of Japeth: Magog [land of Gog (which means mountain)] - Gentiles

The age of 'Sarah [queen]' when she died was 127 years. Candace [prince of servants], as a dynasty rather than a name, is mentioned as queen of Ethiopia. Ethiopia and Egypt are the strength of Nineveh (the bloody city [Nahum 3].
**Jacob served 'uncle Laban [white], his 'mother's brother', a Syrian [exalted], taking Laban's daughters Leah and Rachel [weary, weak of eyes and ewe /lamb] as wife. Saul / Paul was on the road to Damascus [silent is the sackcloth weaver] in Syria, when he was confronted with the light of Christ.
Genesis 10: Revealing Nimrod: the 'valiant one' - also the rebellious one - - founder of the kingdom of Babel.
In the book of Exodus - in Hebrew Exodus is Shemot meaning 'the names' - God sent Moses to deliver Israel from the bondage of sin and death, Moses came down from the mountain to Israel, having been delivered from their severe affliction in Egypt, gone back to worshiping the gods of Egypt. He comes down from the mountain to find Israel having made and worshiping a 'golden calf'. The word calf - lg( - comes from a root meaning 'revolve'. We have to ask ourselves, not only 'What does our life 'revolve' around? Is it to serve God on our terms - or His terms [obedience to the Word]? But what does the life of Israel now 'revolve around'? The letters are: ( the eye of the needle ... g the camel ... l the shepherd's staff or heart. Moses then ascends the mountain a second time to again receive the commandments of God for Israel:

Abraham, Isaac, Jacob - Jesus Christ are descendants of Shem (the Name). Remembering always that God wants NO MAN to perish, but to come to repentance. Rather than seeing through eyes of 'good and evil' - it is well to see CHRIST or NOT CHRIST.
The 'bride of Christ' is 'New Jerusalem' [Revelation 21]. Jerusalem is first mentioned as JERUSALEM in Joshua 10, but its beginning is declared in Genesis 10 verse 16 by its name 'Jebus', the 'threshing place', its inhabitants the 'Jebusites'. The 'threshing place' is to become 'a teacher of peace'.
Babel, its meaning 'confusion by mixing', has its beginning in Genesis 10:10 - its founder Nimrod: the valiant one - but also - rebellion. Here also we learn of Nineveh [dwelling of offspring], Egypt [under siege], and in verse 14 [NUN: offspring] - the Philistines [as immigrants]. Canaan begets Sidon, of whom is Jezebel [Baal exalts the unchaste].
In Genesis 4:16 Cain goes out from the presence of the Lord and 'wanders' in the land of Nod. It is there he 'knows his wife and she bears him a son which they name Enoch [trained / disciplined / disciple] and Cain builds a city and names it after his son. Enoch begets Irad [fleet], who begets Mehujael [smitten by God], who begets [Methusael [who is of God] , who begets Lamech [powerful] who murders a man to his own wounding. He knows that as Cain would be avenged sevenfold - his would be 'seventy times seven'. But when Chris was asked how many times should I forgive my brother - his answer was 'seventy times seven'.
The WILDERNESS [midbar -rbdm ] and wilderness life is first spoken of in Genesis 14:6 [fourteen the number of 'kingdom offspring]. John 14:6 tells us that 'Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. The wilderness, by nature, is an 'untamed place' tending to be on the 'wild side.' When pursuing the life of Christ, a righteous man's steps are ordered. Hagar is the first to enter the wilderness:

Jesus said in his wilderness journey, 'Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'

..... You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again!
... 2 You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it;
..... Heal its breaches, for it is shaking.
... 3 You have shown Your people hard things;
..... You have made us drink the wine of confusion.[Babylon]
... 4 You have given a banner to those who fear You,
..... That it may be displayed because of the truth.Selah
... 5 That Your beloved may be delivered,
...... Save with Your right hand, and hear me.
... 6 God has spoken in His holiness:
....... I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem [shoulder]
....... And measure out the Valley of Succoth [temporary shelter].
... 7 Gilead [witness heap] is Mine,
...... and Manasseh [causing to forget / deprive] is Mine;
...... Ephraim [double ash-heap / doubly fruitful] also is the
..... helmet for My head; Judah [he will be praised] is My lawgiver.
... 8 Moab [of his father] is My washpot;
..... Over Edom [Esau is Edom / Esau sold his birthright] I will cast My shoe;
..... Philistia [immigrants / sojourners], shout in triumph because of Me."
... 9 Who will bring me to the strong city?
..... Who will lead me to Edom [red]?
. 10 Is it not You, O God, who cast us off?
..... And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?
. 11 Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless.
. 12 Through God we will do valiantly, [overcoming Babylon]
..... for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.
OKAY, with this in mind - next to ponder Revelation 17:
