Malachi 2
10 Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us?
....Why do we deal treacherously with one another
....by profaning the covenant of the fathers?
11 Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination
....has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem,
....for Judah has profaned the LORD's holy institution which He loves:
....He has married the daughter of a foreign god.
12 May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob
....the man who does this, being awake and aware,
....Yet who brings an offering to the LORD of hosts!
13 And this is the second thing you do: you cover the altar
....of the LORD with tears, with weeping and crying; so He does not regard
....the offering anymore, nor receive it with goodwill from your hands.
14 Yet you say, "For what reason?" Because the LORD has been witness between
....you and the wife of your youth, with whom you have dealt treacherously;
....yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
15 But did He not make them one, having a remnant of the Spirit?
....and why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit,
....and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.
16 "For the LORD God of Israel says that
....He hates divorce xl# shalach,,
....for it covers one's garment with violence," says the LORD of hosts.
...."Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously."
17 You have wearied the LORD with your words; yet you say,
...."In what way have we wearied Him?" In that you say,
...."Everyone who does evil Is good in the sight of the LORD,
....and He delights in them," or, "Where is the God of justice?"

Shalach is a word meaning ‘to cast out, to send away’. By its letters it tells of 'destroying love and consummate life' - even to the ‘destroying of the heart of a disciple’. God hates divorce because it covers one with violence. Just as severe a word for divorce is – כריתות - ker-ee-thooth': divorce, dismissal from the root kaw-rath כרת which actually means to cut off a body part, eliminate, kill, behead, cut a covenant, permit to perish …. When a WIFE is adulterous divorce is imminent for the sake of his name and godly offspring. If a man should divorce his (non-adulterous) wife, he is 'beheading' her. If a woman divorces her husband, she has 'murder in her heart (the spirit which crucified Christ) and is beheading herself. The word כריתות - ker-ee-thooth' is an interesting prophetic picture, showing the 'mark of the (fore)head, the mark of the hand and 'being cut-off.

Divorce for the reason of sexual immorality is given to the MAN, for his name's sake and that of Godly offspring. Jeremiah relates that God ‘divorced’ Israel for reasons of sexual immorality, although He yet continues to bid her to reconcile and return to Him wholeheartedly. Not that GOD ‘wanted a divorce’, but that ISRAEL did not want to be constrained. When Israel suppressed the mind of God, rather than suppress her evil behavior, she sealed her fate - that is - unless she repents. ‘They have walked according to the dictates of their own hearts and after the Baals - - - And (she) went after her lovers; but Me she forgot," says the Lord.'
1Corinthians 7 builds on the principles of marriage and confirms the command of keeping the marriage vow. There are instructions to the unmarried and the widow and also to each one as the Lord has called, so let him walk according the Word of God. This Word follows and is in agreement with Jesus teaching in Matthew 5 & 19 and Mark 10. Paul also makes the distinction of 'not I, BUT THE LORD COMMANDS'.
1 Corinthians 7
2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man
..have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her,
..and likewise also the wife to her husband.
10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord :
....A wife is not to depart from her husband.
11 But even if she does depart,
....let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband.
....And a husband is not to divorce his wife.
12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say:
....If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is
....willing to live with him, let him not divorce her.
13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is
....willing to live with her, let her not divorce him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the
....unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your
....children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister
....is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.
16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband?
....Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?
Paul continues clarifying a person's call within his circumstance at the 'time he was called'. But he makes clear that it is KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS that matters:
19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing,
.... but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.
24 Brethren, let each one remain with God
....in that state in which he was called.
Paul has just stated that 'each one remain with God in that state in which he was called. Paul now speaks - to men - of virgins (chaste women who have never yet married) [given vs 28], then to men 'bound to a wife', to men 'loosed from a wife', either divorced for the cause of sexual immorality or 'single men' (widowed), encouraging all to 'remain as they are' and not seek a wife. But to these, if they do marry (within the established Scriptures as already stated), they do not sin.
25 Now concerning virgins παρθένος parthenos :
....I have no commandment from the Lord; yet
....I give judgment as one whom the Lord in His mercy has made trustworthy.
........1. a virgin
............a. a marriageable maiden
............b. a woman who has never had sexual intercourse with a man
............c. one's marriageable daughter
26 I suppose therefore that this is good because of the present distress
....that it is good for a man to remain as he is:
27 Are you bound δέω deō to a wife?
........to be bound to one, a wife, a husband
....Do not seek to be loosed. λύσις lysis
........of the bond of marriage, divorce
...Are you loosed λύω lyō from a wife? Do not seek a wife.
........of a husband and wife joined together by the bond of matrimony
........of a single man, whether he has already had a wife or has not yet married
........to loose one bound, i.e. to unbind, release from bonds, set free
28 But even if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries,
....she has not sinned. Nevertheless such will have trouble in the flesh,
....but I would spare you.
Verses 36-37-38 are addressed to fathers who have virgin daughters, that if the daughter is agreeable to marriage, there is no sin, but also vs 37 if he wishes his virgin daughter to remain single and she is agreeable it is the better thing that she can give her full attention to the things of the Lord. Verse 39 again confirms Jesus commands:

After confirming the commands of the Lord, Paul now makes a distinction in what is being said. He says, "I, not the Lord' say. Note in verse 15 it says that a brother or sister is not 'under bondage' in the case of an 'unbelieving spouse' leaving. This word bondage δοῦλος doulos means
........'not under the condition of being a slave / servant';
........devoted to another to the disregard of one's own interests
........'not under the condition of being a slave / servant';
........devoted to another to the disregard of one's own interests
12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say:

....but if her husband dies, she is at liberty to be married
....to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
40 But she is happier if she remains as she is, according to my judgment--
....and I think I also have the Spirit of God.
To be continued - Marriage, Adultery, Divorce - in a Nutshell - 7-16
As always, this is presented in the Spirit of the Lord's forgiveness, for one to seek repentance, and to return to the walk of a disciple, as a Christian is called. We have all sinned and fallen short, but TODAY, we can 'hear' and 'enter His rest'. We love Him if we keep his commands.
Shalom!
