The LAW - - 3 of 3

Galatians 4:
24 For these are the two covenants:
....the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage,
....which is Hagar
25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia,
....and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is,
....and is in bondage with her children

We have been addressing the subject of THE LAW particularly as it pertains to 'New Testament believers. We have established that bondage [post 18] is 'never to the law' but to Egypt (distress), to the beggardly elements of the world [Galatians 4], to sin, corruption, and death. Galatians 4 relates the two covenants, the one from Mt. Sinai,
the place of thorns - which gives birth to bondage - which is HAGAR. It doesn't address this covenant as 'the law' - - but this covenant as HAGAR. Both covenants correspond to JERUSALEM, one above, one below. The New Testament [Matthew 13:22, Mark 4:18-19, Luke 8:14] confirms thorns with bondage, as something that 'chokes the life out of you'.

Luke 8:14
Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who,
when they have heard,
go out and are choked with cares, riches,
and pleasures of life,
and bring no fruit to maturity.

'
For this Hagar (flight) is Mount Sinai (thorny) in Arabia (barren)'. 'For this FLIGHT [seeking refuge] is THORNY and BARREN (without fruit)'. 'Seeking refuge in the riches and pleasures of this life is fruitless'. God sent Moses [one drawn from the water (the wisdom of His Word] to deliver Israel from the 'bondage' of Egypt [distress -of being besieged by an enemy]. God brought Israel to Sinai, the 'high place of thorns' [cares, riches, and pleasures of life] that they could see it 'for what it was' and be witness to it all 'going up in smoke' as fire came down on the mount. Israel was brought to Sinai, first, by crossing the 'Red' sea.

ADAM was created as 'red', as the 'blood image' of Christ. Esau / EDOM was also 'red'. ADAM and EDOM are the same Hebrew letters indicating the MASTER'S BLOOD. One can not serve two masters. You are one blood relation - or the other [John 8:38-45]. Esau sold his birthright as firstborn, for a bowl or 'red' stew, afterward seeking to kill his brother to gain back his blessing of 'birthright'.

Galatians 4:25
For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is,
and is in bondage with her children

At the time of Christ the high council of Jews sought to kill their brother - Christ - over the issue of birthright but to God be the glory, the blood of man (John 19:5) is now the 'blood of Christ'.

So the Lord led Israel through the 'red' sea, and brought them to SInai, that Israel would 'see the end of all that is corruptible' and choose' - HIM - and that which is incorruptible. Fifty days later on Shavuot (Pentecost) Israel was given THE LAW [Galatians 3:24] as a tutor until Christ would come - to keep them in the way. The LAW (Romans 3:20) was given to give them knowledge of their sin that they could live and not die. Israel's destiny is to 'rule as a prince', for the LAW TO BE WRITTEN ON THEIR HEART and this is the destiny of a disciple of Christ. One is 'free from the law' when the law 'finds no fault' in him'.
At His death, Jesus, taking the burden of sin that was on the people, was 'crowned with thorns'.

In Matthew 5 Jesus states that He did not come to 'destroy the law', but to fulfill it. 'Behold a heart able to suppress evil'. Christ passed through death, conquering death, that death would no longer have power over man. We also, as disciples, enter into this fulfillment, not through the law but through Christ Himself, having the same heart that suppresses evil. A DOER of the law [see post 22] is one who 'believes on Christ', and Christ lives in him.

.......2Corinthians 5
.......16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh.
...........Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh,
...........yet now we know Him thus no longer.
.......17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
...........old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
.......18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself
...........through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
.......19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself,
...........not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us
...........the word of reconciliation.
.......20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were
...........pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be
...........reconciled [to change, exchange one thing for another, to transform to God]
.......21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us,
...........that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The 'deeds of the law', can be viewed as the 'fruit of the law'. Our 'good deeds', the 'fruit' of 'obeying the law' is NOT our justification. WE did not produce the fruit. The tree did. It is the 'tree of life, the cross of Christ - that 'justifies' - - not our own 'EATING FROM' or eating the fruit of the 'tree of the knowledge of 'good and evil'. DOERS of the LAW are they that take Christ to heart - take 'law to heart':
h BEHOLD the ... r FIRST ... w UPRIGHT MAN ... t SEALED in truth, body, soul and spirit, their conscience also bearing witness, their thoughts accusing or else excusing them:

Romans 2
13 (for NOT the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God,
....but the DOERS OF THE LAW WILL BE JUSTIFIED;
15
WHO SHOW the work of the LAW WRITTEN IN THEIR HEARTS,

....their conscience also bearing witness,
....and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)

Romans 7
12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.
16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
22 For I DELIGHT in the law of God according to the inward man.
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind,
.....and bringing me into captivity to the LAW OF SIN which is in my members.
25 I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!
....So then, with the mind I myself serve the LAW OF GOD,
....but with the flesh the LAW OF SIN.

Sin is to 'miss the goal, to miss the way, go wrong, miss the 'high calling in Christ'. It is to serve death and not life.

Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end [telos] of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Telos means to 'set out for a definite point or goal'. A goal is 'to reach fulfillment': h BEHOLD a l HEART that k SUPPRESSES EVIL. Goal can also indicate a 'terminal point'' - - IF - IF - iF you are 'in Christ' - body, soul, and spirit - you are terminal - 'dead' - to the law. The law has found 'nothing in you' that violates it. When we confess Jesus as our Lord, our spirit becomes one with His spirit. [Galatians 2:20] It is no longer I that live but Christ lives in me. It is then our 'reasonable service' [Romans 12] to transform our mind to the mind of Christ and IF the 'spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead' [the glory of the Father Romans 6:4], dwells in you, He heals the mortal body. Christ has born our 'sin' in his body. He wore our 'crown of thorns' that we could 'see our sin' - our 'lawlessness' and its effect on 'man' [John 19:5]. It is the 'spirit of life in Christ' that makes us free from the 'law of sin and death.

Romans 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,*
..
WHO DO NOT walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS
..has made me free from the LAW OF SIN AND DEATH.
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh,
..God did by sending His own Son (grace) in the likeness of sinful flesh,
..on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us
..WHO DO NOT WALK ACCORDING TO THE FLESH BUT ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT.
7 Because the CARNAL MIND IS ENMITY against God;
..FOR IT IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE LAW OF GOD, nor indeed can be.

The flesh 'lies, cheats, steals, kills and commits adultery'. This is the 'nature of the flesh'. The nature of the Spirit, is the 'spirit of life in Christ', bearing the 'fruit or the spirit'.

Romans 8
.
.8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
..9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit,
....if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
....Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin,
....but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,
....He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
....through His Spirit who dwells in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors not to the flesh,
....to live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die ;
....but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
these are sons of God
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you
....
received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
16 The Spirit Himself
bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ,
....if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

Selah - consider the 'ifs'. Christ has paid the 'penalty of sin, which, by the law, is death so that we may embrace the Spirit of life in Christ.

Shalom!
