Healing and Facing your GIANT - 1 of 4

I woke up yesterday morning with a word of 'healing' on my mind. Immediately I saw the battles of Jericho and Ai, the preparation, the failure, and the subsequent victory. And as I saw that, the song I learned as a child, to the familiar voice of Mahalia and others, came to mind: 'Joshua fit the battle of Jericho':

"Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" (or alternatively "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho") is a well-known African-American spiritual. The song is believed to have been composed by slaves in the first half of the nineteenth century ... The lyrics allude to the biblical story of the Battle of Jericho, in which Joshua led the Israelites against Canaan (Joshua 6:15-21). However, like some other spirituals, the words had a hidden meaning alluding to eventual escape from slavery - in the case of this song, "And the walls came tumblin' down." ... The closing portion of the tune, sung to the words quoted above, is its most memorable portion: the notes plunge emphatically and impart a glorious sense of collapse, of triumph."

You can here the song here:

Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down

God knows that
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down

Good morning sister Mary
Good morning brother John
Well I wanna stop and talk with you
Wanna tell you how I come along

I know you've heard about Joshua
He was the son of Nun
He never stopped his work until
Until the work was done

God knows that
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down

You may talk about your men of Gideon
You may brag about your men of Saul
There's none like good old Joshua
At the battle of Jericho

Up to the walls of Jericho
He marched with spear in hand
Go blow them ram horns, Joshua cried
'Cause the battle is in my hands

God knows that
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down

You may talk about your men of Gideon
You may brag about your king of Saul
There none like Joshua
At the battle of Jericho

They tell me, great God that Joshuas spear
Was well nigh twelve feet long
And upon his hip was a double edged sword
And his mouth was a gospel horn

Yet bold and brave he stood
Salvation in his hand
Go blow them ram horns Joshua cried
'Cause the devil can't do you no harm

Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down

Up to the walls of Jericho
He marched with spear in hand
Go blow them ram horns, Joshua cried
'Cause the battle is in my hands

Then the lamb ram sheep horns began to blow
The trumpets began to sound
Old Joshua shouted glory
And the walls came tumblin' down

God knows that
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down

Down, down, down, down, down
Tumblin' down

JOSHUA is Hebrew for JESUS:

LEX TALONIS: [See post 34 on 7-05] Jesus bore our punishment that we now have LIFE
SHIN....means TEETH: tooth, lex talionis, beast; sharp; a sharp rock, crag.

LEX TALONIS is the law of retaliation, whereby a punishment resembles the offense committed in kind and degree. This is where 'an eye for eye, a tooth for a tooth' and 'gnashing of teeth' gets its meaning. A tooth is 'sharp' meaning to teach (incisively), to pierce to desire lex talonis.

The punishment for our sin was paid for by Jesus. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever BELIEVES on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We are to understand and grasp God's love / grace, behold the Lamb - Jesus - as He walked and connect to His provision of life and healing that He gave His life that we could possess it.

We are to 'grasp the beginning of life, in the beginning of wisdom, the fear of the Lord, and CONNECT to it - because IT IS OUR LIFE. The

IF you have been a 'slave to sickness', its time that the walls came 'tumblin down'. When Jesus died on the cross 2000 years ago he literally defeated death and sickness. There is a difference between 'sickness' and 'symptoms'. So before we proceed with the Word - tune in to this broadcast - and start building your faith:

I was tested on this very word this morning in what looked like a 'defeated' situation from the get-go. I needed to lift my spouse off of the floor after a fall - - 180 pounds - no easy task. What has taken us literally hours in the past to accomplish because of 'what appeared to be' limited mobility and confusion - - took 10 minutes. Praise God, His Word - and MY believing it was true (in my heart, just not my head) put the victory into our hands.

To be continued

SHALOM!
